Naxals slit CRPF men's throats, smashed heads
Raipur: The brutal face of Naxals who killed 27 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday came out when they slit open throats and smashed the heads of some of the security men.
According to the preliminary post-mortem reports the personnel were brutally killed by the Naxals and around three to four bullet wounds were found on all the 27 CRPF personnel bodies.
"The Naxalites shot dead the CRPF personnel from a distance and later, they slit open the throats of three and smashed heads of two other jawans," a top police official said.
The bodies of the CRPF personnel were airlifted from the thick forests of Dhodawyee to the state capital's Dr BR Ambedkar hospital for conducting post-mortem.
While the CRPF personnel foiled the Naxals move of attempting to loot the armory, 27 jawans were killed, he said, adding "police believe that around 15 Naxalites were killed in the cross-firing".
A large number of heavily-armed Naxals, perched on a hilltop, had opened fire with automatic weapons on a 63-member security contingent which was returning on foot from road opening duty yesterday.

CA feels 'gutted, insulted' by ICC's rejection of Howard
ICC's rejection of John Howard's bid for Presidency has "gutted" Cricket Australia, which says the snub is insulting and would affect its relationship with the governing body.
Although he refused to blame India for Howard's rejection, CA chairman Jack Clarke said the country's financial clout in the ICC was not ideal. "In any business model where a company has 75 per cent of the income, it's not an ideal model," he said. "But that is not India's fault they do that ... it's a powerful bloc but it's a reality of life," he was quoted as saying by 'Fox Sports'.
Howard's candidacy was rejected after the powerful Afro-Asian bloc refused to endorse him and Clarke said both Australia and New Zealand, who jointly nominated Howard, were frustrated. "What the genesis ... was, we don't know, that is one of the frustrating things apart from not having any reasons," Clarke said from Singapore where the ICC meeting was held. "You hope it doesn't affect the relationship but it obviously puts a block there for a while and makes you wary."
"Gutted and incredibly disappointed that a man of John Howard's stature has been knocked off for this job," he said. "If you keep having processes that don't work, or are not allowed to work, I am not too sure where they go from there."
Had Howard been elected, he would have succeeded former BCCI chief Sharad Pawar as ICC President in 2012. Following his rejection, the ICC has asked Australia and New Zealand to nominate a new candidate by the end of August.
New Zealand Cricket chairman Alan Isaac said he was baffled by the rejection. "We have been unable to get a reason for the lack of support for our nomination and it's just not acceptable," Isaac said from Singapore. "When you go through a process like we have been through, the most rigorous process that two countries could go through to get the best candidate, John wasn't putting his hand up for this job, he was asked by cricket," added Clarke. "When you put up someone ... as eminent as John, I don't think embarrassed is strong enough actually, I'm just gutted.

Dyslexic student in Mumbai alleges rape by tutor
A private tutor in Mumbai has been arrested for raping his 13-year-old student, who suffers from dyslexia, a learning disability. The victim, who lives at Carter road in Bandra, alleges that 50-year-old Ramchandra Nadar raped her for over three months and threatened her against reporting the matter.
Police registered a case against Nadar on May 30 at the Khar police station but he went missing a day later. Nadar was arrested on Wednesday after his anticipatory bail petition was rejected by the Mumbai Sessions Court. He will be produced in a court on Thursday.
Both parents of the girl are work hence Nadar used to come many times with only the girl and maid being at home. Police are investigating why the maid did not raise an alarm when Nadar raped the girl.
The 13-year-old girl was studying in class 8 and was being given tuition by the accused for six months.
Nadar has been a tuition teacher for the last 10 years and was taking home tuitions of at least eight other students.

Ashes immersed, Babajee kin to contact cops soon
The ashes of model and former Miss Mauritius Viveka Babajee were immersed at Ramkund in Nashik by her mother Dayavanti, sisters Alka and Neeta and brother-in-law Shailesh Parekh on Wednesday morning. The model had committed suicide last week at her residence in Continental Towers, Carter Road, Bandra.
Sources said the family has been surprised and disturbed by reports and speculations appearing in the media about the model’s death. Babajee’s relatives are planning to clear the air in due time, but are collecting themselves right now.
The late model’s brother-in-law, Satpal Maan aka Gogi, told TOI on Wednesday, "Viveka’s mother has just returned from Nashik and is not feeling too well. The doctors have advised her some rest. As soon as she is feeling better we will definitely be going to meet the police and also issue a statement to the media. Viveka’s mother is in Mumbai for only three days and is very disturbed as she has lost her youngest daughter who she loved very much and was very close to. Give her some time."
It is learnt that the family will record its statement with the police on Saturday. Meanwhile, sources said that feelers continue to come from stockbroker Gautam Vora’s friends, who say he wants the case to be resolved amicably.

Sharad Pawar is ICC president
Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday formally took over as president of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Pawar, who is the second Indian after Jagmohan Dalmiya to occupy the ICC top post, was given the charge during the annual conference week of the world cricket body.
Dalmiya was the first Indian to be elected to the president's post in 1997.
Pawar, who is also the Indian Agriculture Minister, is the seventh ICC president, succeeding Englishman David Morgan who concluded his two-year term.
He has taken over the top post at a crucial time when India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are scheduled to host the 2011 cricket World Cup.

'Broiler Murga' CRPF continues to be easy prey for Naxals
Tuesday’s incident when 26 CRPF personnel were killed is another example of how they are sitting ducks to the Maoists who have aptly termed them as ‘broiler murga’. The mocking nomenclature is inspired by the particular type of chicken that are always transported in large numbers.
The CRPF jawans, who always venture out in large numbers for patrolling in the forests, are being mocked at by the rebels who repeatedly gain the upper hand in ambushes. Security experts say that’s what makes the CRPF all the more vulnerable.
Call it their psychological tactics or sheer sledging, Naxals boast of plans to eliminate an entire patrolling CRPF squad. ‘Inko jhund mein pakdo aur jhund me maro’ (catch them in bunch and kill them all) is what the Naxals are learnt to preach among cadres.
On Wednesday, around four more CRPF jawans of a patrolling party were injured after a pressure bomb went off in the road between Cherpal and Gangaluru in Bijapur. Tuesday’s incident in Narayanpur district was no different than what had happened in Chintalnar in Dantewada or Pedakodepal in Bijapur, both in May. The entire squad _ ambushed within 3km from the Dhaudai base camp _ comprised nearly 69 jawans and their officers. The party was divided into two groups. While one had moved ahead, the other was following close behind and they were the ones to be ambushed.
The Naxals had set a trap on the road. In their usual style, they encircled the jawans and rained bullets from all sides leaving the security personnel no room to escape. Sources said that in much less than an hour the resistance of the CRPF personnel was over. The party, which had already advanced, was nowhere to conduct the rescue.
Like in Chintalnar where 76 personnel died, the entire party was rendered helpless when the Naxals opened fire on them.
“The CRPF had been effective in tackling the law and order situation in Kashmir. Countering the Naxals and their ploys are a different ball game all together,” said a senior Chhattisgarh cop. “The CRPF personnel would fail to comply with patrolling instructions in the jungles of maintaining substantial gap between the jawans. They would often be walking too close to each other. A single burst of fire from a sophisticated firearm would ensure the fall of five to six jawans. The moment a party sees five to six dropping dead, it becomes mentally difficult to continue the gun battle.”
Local police often suggest to CRPF jawans to avoid roads and follow jungle trails. “The advice always falls on deaf ears,” added the cop. “If they cannot sensitize an area of at least 5km radius around the base camps, it shows lack of concern and foresight. In both Chintalnar and Dhaudai the ambushes were laid within 3 kms of the base camps.”

World Bank clears $430m loan for suburban railway
The World Bank on Tuesday approved a $430-million loan (Rs 2,000-odd crores) for the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP)’s 2A project to improve the city’s suburban railway system.
The state government and the railways will now have to push ahead with their plans to raise the additional funds required for the project, which is expected to cost Rs 5,300 crore. The Indian Railways and the state government will share the cost of the project on a 50:50 basis.
The railways plans to raise the funds by developing a large plot of land at Bandra East. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) additional commissioner S Srinivas admitted that the revenues generated by developing the plot at Bandra East are central to funding the MUTP 2A.
Railway officials say that in order to raise funds, the railways had floated tenders for developing the plot.
They, though, did not receive any definite offers as the process was conducted during the early stages of global recession. "A subsidiary financial agreement between the state government and the railways will have to be signed before the project can become a reality," said Srinivasan.
Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation managing director P C Sehgal said the progress of the loan is been monitored by the prime minister’s office.”Manmohan minister, the prime minister, had discussed the project in September 2006 in the presence of the railway minister and planning commission members. The Centre and the state are committed to the project and funds can be raised from different sources to ensure that this project goes through," said Sehgal.
The 2A project, which is the first part of the MUTP II, will involve the procurement of rakes for the suburban railways at a cost of Rs 2,930 crores; the building of a fifth and sixth line from CST to Kurla at a cost of Rs 659 crores; the building of a fifth and sixth line from Thane to Diva to cost Rs 133 crores; a sixth line from Mumbai Central to Borivali to cost Rs 522 crores; station improvement, Rs 128 crores; and resettlement and rehabilitation of families, Rs 124 crores. MUTP II is a sequel to the MUTP I loan, which is bringing about an improvement in the traffic and transport scenario.
During the discussion leading to the loan procurement, MMRDA officials said there was a disagreement between World Bank officials and the state over resettlement of project-affected persons.

The former chief executive of a British chemical company faces the prospect of extradition to the US after the firm admitted million-dollar bribes to officials to sell toxic fuel additives to Iraq.
Paul Jennings, until last year chief executive of the Octel chemical works near Ellesmere Port, Merseyside, and his predecessor, Dennis Kerrison, exported tonnes of tetra ethyl lead (TEL), to Iraq. TEL is banned from cars in western countries because of links with brain damage to children. Iraq is believed to be the only country that still adds lead to petrol.
Howrah-Shirdi train via city in new railway time table
With new railway timetable coming into force across Indian Railway from Thursday, Nagpur Division of Central Railway has also affected a minor changes. A new weekly train is being introduced between Howrah and Shirdi thus giving city a direct connection to pilgrim centre.
The train number 2573 Shirdi-Howrah Express will leave Shirdi at 1.45 pm on Saturday and reach Howrah on Sunday at 7.30 pm. Similarly, train number 2574 will leave Howrah on Thursday at 2.35 pm and reach Shirdi at 8.30 pm on Friday. Demand for a direct train to Shirdi was long-pending as until now devotees had to alight at Manmad station for changing trains or take a bus. The frequency of the train may be increased looking into demand, said Y K Singh, PRO, Central Railway. Another new train has been introduced between Chhindwara and Gwalior. It will leave Chhindwara on Wednesdays and Saturdays and Gwalior on Tuesdays and Fridays. The passengers will also benefit from increase in frequency of 2295/2296 Bangalore-Patna Sanghamitra Express. The train, that passes through Nagpur, will now run daily. Similarly, the 2807/2808 Nizamuddin-Vishakhapatnam Express will run five days a week instead of three.
The railways has also speeded up 2860 Howrah-Mumbai Gitanjali Express by 10 minutes between Nagpur and Mumbai. It will now reach Mumbai at 9.20 pm instead of 9.30 pm. The 1396 Ballarshah-Wardha passenger has also been speeded up by 30 minutes. Singh informed that days of 2923/2924 weekly Indore-Nagpur Express have been revised. It will now leave Nagpur on Wednesday instead of Thursday.
From Indore it will leave on Tuesday instead of Wednesday. The South East Central Railway (SECR) has extended Gondia-Durg MEMU train up to Raipur from July 1, informs Pradeep Kumar, senior divisional commercial manager (SrDCM).

'SYTYCD' Top 9 Performance Recap: 6 Boys, 3 Girls, 1 Cat
The girls of So You Think You Can Dance have been getting beaten like a dead mule, and with half as many girls as boys in the Top 9, it's time for that to end. Tonight we see the six boys, the three girls, one glorious Cat Deeley, a same-sex partnership, a wardrobe malfunction and solos from the Top 9.
Introductions: For reasons beyond my understanding, Cat Deeley pronounces Ashley's name with a Southern drawl. She continues to win my heart by repeatedly using the word "erudite."
Sorting Hat: Lauren Froderman is excited to get Neil Haskell because they're both pretty. I'll second that opinion. Alex Wong is confused and fake cries upon learning he's partnered with Twitch Boss for a Hip-Hop routine. I can't determine if he's sad that he's dancing with a guy or if he has to do Hip-Hop.
Adechike Torbert and Lauren Gottlieb
Hip-Hop choreographed by Dave Scott
This is a rather silly routine about a blerd (black nerd) and Adechike has a goofy smile on his face the whole time which is appropriate for this dance but disconcerting for Hip-Hop. This makes Billy Bell's Krumping look downright gangsta. The judges rave about his newly discovered personality, but I don't see any difference.
Adechike's Fate: If he was safe the first two weeks, he'll probably be safe again, but I'd put him in the Bottom 3 anyway.
Ashley Galvan and Ade Obayomi
Contemporary choreographed by Dee Caspary
This is what all Contemporary should be, a fierce and raw piece of movement as Ade tries to mend a broken Ashley. She's extraordinary with her movements and emotions. Nigel LOVES it, so the judges and I are back on the same page.
Ashley's Fate: Should definitely safe.
Robert Roldan and Courtney Galiano
Jazz choreographed by Sonya Tayeh
Robert's inspiration is his mom who went through a divroce, breast cancer, three miscarriages and two babies who were born then died in her arms. That's the single saddest thing I've ever heard. Robert fits perfectly with Sonya's crazy style, but it doesn't matter since his incredibly brave mom is in the audience. So he gets sympathy, a great Sonya routine and he's going shirtless. The show must really, really not want Robert to wind up in the Bottom 3 again.
Robert's Fate: Definitely safe, unless America hates Robert's mom.
Melinda Sullivan and Pasha Kovalev

Words can not adequately describe how awful this was. Melinda gets caught up in her dress right away, clearly ruining her confidence for the whole routine. She's stiff and very awkward. Mia Michaels and Adam Shankman even apologize for eliminating Cristina Santana and keeping Melinda. Wow, they are just unloading five cans of hatred on her.
Melinda's Fate: Definitely in the Bottom 3, and I'll be curious to see if the judges can actually eliminate another girl when she so obviously deserves it.
Lauren Froderman and Neil Haskell
Broadway choreographed by Joey Dowling
I love Broadway and this is acceptable, but Lauren is more cute than sultry even with a nearly FCC-worthy wardrobe malfunction when her dress falls apart that Nigel found very ... titillating. However, Lauren gets out-acted by Neil.
Lauren's Fate: Safe, thanks to the amount of people who will rewatch this routine on their DVRs.
Billy Bell and Kathryn McCormick
Contemporary choreographed by Stacey Tookey
Oddly, Billy's inspiration is Legacy, who he saw as a child. I had high expectations and somehow Billy topped them. This was raw and emotional about two people breaking up and I loved all the moves. Nigel found a lack of chemistry, but I thought these two worked well together. However, the judges' criticisms are constructive and designed to help Billy Bell win this season like he deserves.
Billy's Fate: Definitely safe.
Jose Ruiz and Anya Garnis
Samba choreographed by Dmitry Chaplin
Dmitry and Mya for the win! Wait, wrong dance show. Anyway, Jose's secret weapon is his character work and he perfectly captures the charisma of someone who knows how to Samba. The judges explain it best when they repeatedly say that Jose is not even close to being the best dancer, but they love him anyway.
Jose's Fate: Safe, sadly.
Kent Boyd and Allison Holker
Jazz choreographed by Mandy Moore
I could watch Mandy Moore try to teach Kent how to be a man all day long. However, she could've used another week or two because this is like watching a Woman and a boy. I'm also happy that Nigel calls out the fact that Kent is getting too damn full of himself and playing to the in studio audience instead of being true to his partner, so he becomes a fake caricature.
Kent's Fate: Safe, regardless of his childish dancing.
Alex Wong and Twitch Boss
Hip-Hop choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon
Holy crap, I think I just got schooled by Alex Wong. We all did. Against all odds, the ballet dancer KILLED it in a clever routine about a boy and his shrink. Nappy Tabs even worked in a funny bit using Alex's ballet technique in a Hip-Hop context. But ignoring the amazing choreography and Twitch, Alex Wong was extraordinary at Hip-Hop and he felt completely natural. Nigel goes as far as to demand that this routine get Nappy Tabs an Emmy nomination. Adam's head nearly explodes. Best routine of the night. Best routine of the season.
Alex's Fate: One hundred million, billion percent safe.
The Top 9 Solos
Billy's Solo: Perfection. It highlights all the crazy things he can do with his body and reminds us all that he's Jakob Karr's brother from another mother.
Jose's Solo: I've watched all five seasons of America's Best Dance Crew, so I need a little more than head spins to impress me. There wasn't anything spectacular.
Kent's Solo: The screams from teenage girls in the audience are a bit much, giving me terrible Tim Urban flashbacks from American Idol. But the dancing is fantastic and shows off his agility.
Alex's Solo: Like Billy, he uses the solo to show off the amazing things he can do, mostly around the height he gets with his beautiful leaps.
Ashley's Solo: There's absolutely nothing special here. She'll be in real trouble when she has to do styles outside of her comfort zone.
Robert's Solo: He may not be the most technically gifted dancer, but he knows how to transform emotion into movement better than any other male dancer this season.
Melinda's Solo: Tapping is so different from everything else on this show that it always seems out of place. She clearly deserves to go.
Adechike's Solo: It's phenomenal, the best I've ever seen him, and for me, it only highlights the fact that his partner work needs a lot of work because he's capable of being really good.
Lauren's Solo: That solo just kicked the crap out of the other two girls' solos.
Oh, Sh*t. 'Work of Art' Tests Boundaries
Miles, the subject of much discussion, finally got a good night's sleep after Judith's elimination. She scared us all, Miles. Simon takes them to see a gallery of Andres Serano's work, photography known for its shock value. Menstrual blood, a crucifix in piss, conjoined twins, plenty to make anyone squirm. They get to meet Serrano, and Erik feels like he's finally understood (why?).
I agree with some of the artists, though, I'm not so sure about art for the sake of being shocking. I'm pretty sure some non-art will come out of this. And a lot of genitalia.
Erik claims that "shock art" is his genre, and is working on a piece about priests molesting children. Mark is working with molestation too. Okay.
Along the same lines, Miles is creating a Mickey Mouse head out of genitalia, based on his first erection, courtesy of Ursula when she turns into Vanessa in The Little Mermaid. That is a great erection story (Simon later revealed that his first was from a Renoir). Speaking of Ursula, Nao is not as much of a villain as she started out to be.
I'll be honest, John's portrait made me uncomfortable. And I can't even think about how Miles "finished" his piece.
But speaking of shock: double elimination! Sad. I really don't hate anyone. This challenge is making me a little sick, though, and there's room to mess up big. Once again, Work of Art proves that artists aren't the best spellers (you couldn't spell "fellatio," John?). Nao's performance piece was (I think?) her rubbing a bag of poo on herself.
Jamie Lynn's piece didn't shock anyone, least of all the judges. Erik also didn't do well (too bad so sad). John's piece didn't go over well, but I want him to stay. The judges liked Jaclyn's bathroom portraits but didn't credit Erik for his idea of the viewer graffiti. Get spiky, Erik!
The judges didn't care for Nao's performance art, but Andres Serrano loved it and gave it a new light. The judges also liked Abdi's black head I.E.D.s.
Jaclyn and Erik got into it while the judges were discussing the pieces, but it was the least shocking moment of the night. I would love to see Erik go home, and probably Jamie Lynn while we're at it.
Abdi won, and I was glad because he didn't go sexual and he seems really cool. In the shock of the night, the judges sent John and Nao home (what?!). That is a real bummer, especially after hearing John talk about how badly he didn't want to go home all episode. In an unfortunate, but ironic, turn of phrase, John tells us, "I think I was trying to please Andres Serrano and not myself in this challenge."

Will Bailey's Ben Be Back on 'Grey's Anatomy'?
He was absent on the gut-wrenching season finale of Grey's Anatomy in May, not to mention his standing commitment on the upcoming Shonda Rhimes product Off the Map, but Jason George's role as Bailey's (Chandra Wilson) boyfriend Ben on Grey's is not necessarily over, says Wilson herself.

"How many of us go through long-term relationships that end and then you have to sit there and figure out what to do now," he tells TV Guide. "That's her journey. It was about that discovery and how it will change her personality."
But whatever happens, she says, that relationship, the first for Bailey in a long while and a source of comfort for Grey's Anatomy fans who like seeing the Nazi happy for a change, is "important" for her character's growth.
Rhimes had previously addressed Ben's absence in the finale, explaining that he was, simply, not working that day. It was a more eventful day for Bailey, who had to pretend to be a nurse to avoid getting shot, then try to keep a dying Charles alive, to no avail.
"There was a great debate in the writers' room that we should have Bailey say something about Ben not working," she said. "And I felt like, no, we only see Ben sporadically as it is. He's not at work that day. And I didn't want to spend time -- because we have so little of it and I had to leave 18 minutes on the cutting room floor -- chatting about where Ben was. I felt like you knew Ben wasn't there because you didn't see him there."
She did warn that "there's going to [fallout] about that later."
George's upcoming gig Off the Map is not too different from Grey's Anatomy. It's a medical drama set in a clinic somewhere deep in the South American jungle. He plays Otis Cole, the right hand of the clinic's founder Ben Keeton (Martin Henderson).
Whether George can swing double duty on Grey's and Off the Map, we will find out this fall.
Hurricane Alex makes landfall along Mexican coast
Forecasters say the first Atlantic hurricane of the season has made landfall in northeastern Mexico.
The Category 2 storm churning in the Gulf of Mexico has sustained winds of near 105 mph (155 kph). The National Hurricane Center says it made landfall about 10 p.m. EDT Wednesday at Soto La Marina along the coast.
The storm is far from the Gulf oil spill, but cleanup vessels were sidelined by the hurricane's ripple effects. Six-foot waves churned up by the hurricane splattered beaches in Louisiana, Alabama and Florida with oil and tar balls.

The 39-year-old actress is set to join the cast of the football comedy called “Blue Mountain State” in a recurring role as woman named Debra.
Co-star Darin Brooks told Us magazine, “She plays the coach’s ex-wife, and I think I sleep with her!”
Continuing on, Brooks added, "Everyone said she was really cool, really nice, it was great to work with her. I'm really looking forward to sleeping with her!"

Kim Kardashian Visits NYC For Wax Figure Unveiling
Making her way out east, Kim Kardashian was spotted arriving into JFK Airport in New York City on Wednesday (June 30).
Joined by her supportive mother, Kris Jenner, the two lovely ladies headed out of the terminal to an awaiting car - as they made the trip so that Kim can unveil her wax figure at the famed Madame Tussauds in Times Square on Thursday, July 1.
Quite excited about the event, Miss Kardashian told an awaiting paparazzo, "I can't wait to see what 'Kim' looks like!"
During the airport exit, photogs also brought up Kim's rumored relationship with Dallas Cowboys receiver Miles Austin.
Playing coy, the E! reality stars pretended to be on their cell phones, with Kris smilingly saying, '"I don't know who you're talking about."
On a side note, Kim, Kourtney, Khloe and Kris were recently in Las Vegas to announce plans for a new boutique in The Mirage Hotel and Casino called Khaos.
Featuring exclusive and family endorsed products, the shop is set to open later this summer, with Kim saying, "All of us will be here [Khaos] all the time."
