MCC from the motorway - as seen by Google Streetview

Friday, January 29, 2010
The garden centre 'Alcayna' close by Mazarron Country Club is now permanently recorded in Google Streetview's mapping of the Mazarrón area. The Google Streetview vehicle also seems to have travelled on the back-road E19 from Mazarrón to La Pinilla. I've no idea when these images were taken - presumably sometime last summer or Autumn, or perhaps even a year or two ago. You can make the images

At MCC the beautification of Manzana 36 continues

Sunday, January 17, 2010
Last October a neighbour and I began some landscaping work on the area of rough ground opposite our homes at Mazarron Country Club, basically by having it cleared of weeds, levelled-off and overlaid with a woven weed barrier membrane and then finished off with some gravel for later spot-planting with suitable drought-tolerant plants. However as neither of us lives there permanently, some very

MCC Gardening Group - gardening with [and on] a heart!

Wednesday, October 28, 2009
To start the new gardening season off at Mazarron Country Club, members of the Gardening Group decided it would be a good idea to have a barbecue at the top of one of the pieces of ground that has been transformed since the Spring into an attractively planted and gravelled area, opposite Manzana 28 and between Manzanas 33 & 31. So a group of around a dozen members and friends gathered together on

MCC - "There may be trouble ahead"

Thursday, September 24, 2009
How can I best summarise the events of the MCC AGM held on 24th September? Well, it was a tiring evening. I remained after the formal meeting ended at 8.35pm and took part as one of the 'counters' for the 3 elements of the votes it was decided to tabulate last night - those for president, the individuals who stood as representatives in their own names and the administrator firm. We completed our

After the first very successful barbecue held by the Neighbourhood Concern Gardening Group at Mazarron Country Club in mid-July, plans are now well underway for a second fundraising barbecue in early September. Obviously the word is being passed around MCC about the next barbecue and posters are being displayed there so people know about it. I'm happy to include below a copy of the poster they

MCC Gardening Group - watering's the thing!

Monday, July 27, 2009
Well, giving the plants badly-needed water in addition to laying more membrane and gravel, with the aim of giving plant roots some extra protection from the intense drying heat. And doing some minor planting of donated plants, now not really being the right season to be putting too many new plants into the soil (even if you can dig it right now when it's so rock-hard).Yesterday evening (Sunday

MCC Gardening Group - On moving a Yucca plant

Friday, July 24, 2009
It is VERY hot in the Murcia region just at present and indeed today I saw a report in La Verdad advising that an Orange Alert for dangerously high temperatures in the region over the next several hours has been announced, with a warning that temperatures could reach 40+ degC.So, a couple of days ago it was that some brave souls from the Mazarron Country Club Gardening Group decided to undertake

MCC Gardening Group Fund-raising Barbecue - 15 July 2009

Saturday, July 18, 2009
From what I have read and heard from direct contacts with people who were there, the Barbecue last Wednesday evening, hosted by the MCC Gardening Group to raise funds for their future activities, was a huge success and everyone seems to have enjoyed the evening a lot. Unfortunately as I am not currently in Spain I couldn't be there myself, but am really grateful to have received a large number of

CNN report on problem golfing developments in southern Spain

Thursday, July 2, 2009
A reporter from CNN International visited MCC and other golf developments in southern Spain recently - as some who have experience there know only too well, such as those of us at MCC, the progress by the builder in fulfilling his promises has been lamantably slow. The current economic downturn is certainly a factor, but one wonders if it is the only reason for their delinquency. Watch and weep:

MCC Gardening Group - it's HOT out there!

Monday, June 22, 2009
Yesterday the gardening group gathered at it's new start-time of 8pm for its regular Sunday evening gardening activities, now restricted because of the heat mainly to watering and weeding, although the hardy gardeners seemingly can't resist getting into moving rocks as well, or even trying to dig holes for new plants in the now near rock-hard soil! These notes are based on information supplied by

MCC Gardening Group - "Flashback to Manzanas 31/33"

Friday, June 12, 2009
Hazel Davison has sent me some photographs this evening of a part of the open ground between Manzanas 31 & 33, opposite Manzana 28, that she and Richard Dawson (and perhaps a few others, I'm not sure) have been working on yesterday and today, to lay gravel around some of the plants put into the soil on previous Sundays, with the aim of inhibiting weed growth and helping to retain moisture in the
