The project to construct a covered swimming pool in Mazarrón, plus the maintenance and operation of the facility for a period of 40 years, is now open to tender. The project was published on 20AUG (search under the 'Bookmarks' section) in page 46247 of the Official Journal of the Murcia Region (BORM) under paragraph 13557 and the announcement is included in the Mazarrón municipality website here.

Rather than producing a completely new article on this matter at this stage, I'm still updating my earlier article with the latest news reports as they come to my notice. If something substantive develops as a result of this protest and its aftermath (rather than the claims and counter-claims that I've read so far about how well-supported the protest was), I will of course write a new article.

In an article published here a few days ago, I mentioned that one item discussed during the 'extraordinary' Council meeting was the tentative plan to build a covered municipal swimming pool for Mazarrón.Now some more details of what is planned are becoming available. The Boletín Oficial de la Región de Murcia published yesterday included details of new regulations passed last week in Murcia which will prohibit smoking in many bars throughout the Murcia region. The council of the municipality of Mazarrón has introduced new beach regulations which will prohibit walking animals (i.e. dogs), setting bonfires, lighting barbecues on beaches or fishing from beaches, with fines ranging from €750- to €3,000- for infractions.
