The Flamingos of Fuente de Piedra - Andalucia

Thousands of Flamingos stop over each year the the Fuente de Piedra nature reserve an area of natural beauty situated behind the Costa del Sol.

Fuente de Piedra is located to the east of Antequera and is easily accessible from all the parts of the Costa del Sol including Malaga, Ronda and Marbella and lies on a practically flat area, surrounded by the Sierras de Mollina mountain range.
The reserve extends on almost flat land, surrounded by the ranges of Mollina, Humilladero and Sierra de Yeguas with the Laguna de Fuente de Piedra and is the largest wetland of its type in Andalusia.

Up to 11,000 breeding flamingos have been spotted in the reserve as well as many other
species such as Warblers, Merlin's, Ospreys, Storks and Herons .
Although the whole year is good for birding the best times to visit the area is during the rainy seasons in Spring and Autumn.
