Skiing in Spain - Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada is located in the Andalucian province of Granada and is Spain's most southerly ski resort. The highest point on Continental Spain can also be found within thee Sierra Nevada mountian range and is called "Mulhacen" which proudly stands over the area at some 3,479 meters in height.

Sierra Nevada nestles high in the Pentibetico mountain range some 32 kms from the stunningly charming and historic city of Granada. The resort offers great facilities for all winter sport enthusiasts and provides a good selection and quality slopes for all levels of skiers. It also has an excellent cross country track and the old saying that can snow in the morning and spend the afternoon tanning yourself on a sun kissed beach is absolutely true, some of the best beaches and resorts are only a stones throw away along the Granada, Almeria and Malaga coastlines.

For nature lovers Sierra Nevada is a must place to visit with picturesque natural scenery and spectacular views over the surrounding mountains.

The resort can get very crowded during weekends and public holidays so if you can try to avoid the slopes on those days your enjoyment of the resort will be much more satisfying.

The main ski village is called Prado Llano, and from there you have access to around 31 hotels, 80 pistes, 91 kms of ski able area, 87 kms of Alpine skiing, and 4 kms of cross country tracks. There are currently 43 lifts with a capacity of transporting some 44,805 people an hour from the village up to the main skiing areas.

The resort offers a good variety of Apres Ski activities, and although it is not renowned for the quality of food on offer in the local restaurants there are more then enough establishments to meet the needs of most hungry skiers and visitors alike.

A good web site to visit for lots of Sierra Nevada realted info is Cetursa.
