Maoists on Tuesday issued a statement disowning Bapi Mahato, the alleged kingpin in the Jnaneswari sabotage case, even as police grilled him for hours to get leads on the rebels’ activities in Jangalmahal.
The statement, purportedly from Maoist politburo member Kishanji, claimed that Bapi was never a part of their organisation and denied the hand of Maoists in the Jnaneswari sabotage. “Bapi is not a member of CPI (Maoist) or any of its wings. We never target common people. Government agencies are conspiring against us to malign our struggle,” was what Kishanji stated.
