Karimunjawa Islands


Karimunjawa is an archipelago of 27 islands in the Java Sea, Indonesia, approximately 80 kilometres northwest of Jepara. The islands' name means 'a stone's throw from Java' in Javanese. They have a total land area of 78 km2. The main island is known as Karimun (2,700 ha), while the second largest island is Kemujan (1,400 ha). The islands' population is 6,632 (as of 1997) who inhabit seven of the islands.

  • Diving
    Diving can be done in the north and west of the Karimunjawa islands, east of the Menjangan Besar island, around the Menjangan Kecil island, the south and west of the Geleang island, west of the Bengkoang island, west of the Parang island, next to east of the Kembar island, about the Katang island, north and east of the Krakal Kecil island and the west of the Kumbang island.

  • Snorkeling
    This activity can be done on the island of Menjangan Besar and Menjangan Kecil, west of the Bengkoang island, around Kembar Island, north and east of the Krakal Kecil island.

  • Fishing
    Fishing can be done around the island of Menjangan Besar and Menjangan Kecil, Menyawakan Island, Tengah Island, Kemujan island, Parang island, around Kembar island and the west of the Bengkoang island.

  • Swimming
    Places to swim among others in the east and south of Karimunjawa island, the south and west of Menjangan Kecil island, the western part of Tengah Island, around Parang island, Kembar Island, and Kumbang island.

  • Sun Bathing
    Almost all the beaches on the islands of Karimunjawa, white sand with a long coastline. This condition causes the coastal region to become suitable to perform activities of sunbathing, playing beach sand, and watch the beauty of sunset or sunrise.

  • Explore the sea
    For those who can not swim and dive, there is a ship which is equipped with a glass at the bottom (glass bottom boat) to see the beauty of the underwater Karimunjawa.
