On Wednesday (i.e. tomorrow) the police in Mazarrón will try out an alternative to simply fining people who park their cars badly or inconsiderately - they will be affixing stickers to the driver's side of the car to reprimand them. The Guardia Civil have arrested seven people and accused four others of alleged 'crime against public health' in connection with the cultivation of marijuana plants in three locations in Murcia - El Raal, Mazarrón and Cieza. I read at the time of the exceptional waves that had occurred in Puerto de Mazarrón on 19th February 2010, but as I wasn't in Spain at the time didn't see them myself. However, I've just found this video-clip on YouTube of the phenomenon; it looks as if it would have been very impressive to see it on the day. I expect there were a few boat-owners who were a bit worried, too!

Around a dozen Portuguese "man o' war" jellyfish have been spotted off the coastline of Murcia, including off of La Isla near Mazarrón. The species Physalia physalis has an extremely painful sting.They usually migrate into the shallower waters of the Meditteranean during the cooler winter months, before returning to deeper waters and to the Atlantic when the temperature rises as summer approaches

The garden centre 'Alcayna' close by Mazarron Country Club is now permanently recorded in Google Streetview's mapping of the Mazarrón area. Body of British woman found drowned off beach at Bolnuevo

The body of a 49-year old British woman was recovered from the water off the beach at Bolnuevo (Puerto de Mazarrón) in the vicinity of Isla Cueva de los Lobos late yesterday morning, its presence having been reported to '112' by a speed-boat passing nearby. Her family had reported her missing the previous day, so I presume this is how her details became known so quickly,
