Humor is truly the best kind of medicine. I remember one day at school when I fell, in front of what seemed like the entire school, the rushing of blood made my cheeks burn and the tears swelled in my eyes, total embarrassment consumed me. My best friend, standing not so far away from me, ran towards me and fell on top me and started laughing hysterically.
At first I wasn't sure what was happening but I soon realized that she was turning a serious situation into something funny that we could all laugh about instead of just me being laughed at. Of course some people laughed and others carried on walking but it was at that moment that I realized that it's important to be able to laugh at the silly things. We take everything so seriously and if we just took a second to laugh at ourselves and laugh with others, life wouldn't seem so bad.
Obviously there are certain situations that humor could never come close to solving but we tend to take everything so very seriously all the time. One issue that is very serious and is an injustice to human rights is the gay issue. People are generally more tolerant these days but a struggle for some respect in the fact that people can't choose who they fall in love has been a sensitive subject for all. And of course, the subject is brought up even more now because of the same sex marriage laws. I think marry who ever you damn well want! If you love that person and are committed to spending a lifetime with them, then why the hell not? But that is not my point.
My point is that because of my belief in seeing the funny side of things the tension of a serious issue can be lightened somewhat. That's why when I came across a story of the popular Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream I couldn't help but laugh myself silly.
Ben and Jerry's has changed the name of one of its best-selling ice creams to Hubby Hubby, in celebration of the legalization of gay marriage in its home state of Vermont. Vermont is following Iowa, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire in approving gay marriage laws, while legislation allowing same-sex unions in California was overturned following a referendum.
Check it out and I hope you have a good chuckle and realize that it's ok for people to be true to themselves.
