Mr Right Or Mr Right Now?
Tuesday, January 26, 2010
It's war of the words and today's topic, how long should you hold out for Mr Right? I happen to believe that there is no such thing as Mr Right, I believe in Mr Right Now but that might just be my sarcastic side coming out again. I think we all have soul mates but I don't believe in just one, this one is quite limiting don't you think?
Hollywood promotes this idea of the perfect man waiting to sweep you off your feet. The reason I bring this up is because American author Lori Gottlieb has written a book, in which she declares that singletons who are still searching for Mr Right by the age of 30 should give up and settle for Mr Second Best. I think it's brilliance in a book! I think it's a competitor for He's Just Not That Into You! The men of our dreams don't exist ladies, it's time we came to that realization and I'm not saying settle down with drunk-beat you-crotch scratching-bob, I'm saying be realistic in your choice of a partner.
I tend to live with my head in the clouds, I often read Mills and Boons Novels, in fact, I want to write some, but all of these mediums whether it's TV, a romance novel, a Hollywood romance or a story from a friend claiming to have found Prince Charming himself, influence us to believe in the perfect male specimen and the reality is unfortunately very far from the fantasy.
I'm not saying don't believe in love, believe in it, revel in it, savor every moment, but remember that we as people all have faults and cracks and that finding the perfect guy is never going to happen. Deal with it!
A Simple Truth

As we get older, we start to see people and situations differently. By the time we are middle aged, we realize we've wasted so much time on the approval of others, that we don't care anymore and that's where freedom comes in. I've always been envious of the people that are so self assured, confident, intelligent. I'm extremely introverted and admittedly a bit of a cluts. I've always wanted to be the care-free spirit that was happy 99 percent of the time and didn't feel bound by the rules of society. The one that truly didn't care what people thought of them.
I've always cared and to a large extent still do. But why? That's the question I've been asking myself since I got back from my holiday. I came back and was hit by a wall of negativity, grumpy people, lips hanging on the ground and I spent the whole of yesterday trying to be the cheerleader of cheer, to my own detriment. By the time I got home I was mentally exhausted. So as I was sitting on the couch, wondering where all the laughter had gone, I had a breakthrough. Alright it was clearly an obvious breakthrough, but a much needed realization none the less. Why should I care?? It's not my job to make other people happy, it's not my responsibility to uplift people who have no inclination of uplifting themselves. Don't get me wrong now, I'm all for spreading the love, but from now on I will do it wisely.
Work smart, not hard. That's my new motto. If I feel the need to say something I will, if I feel the need to not explain certain things, you better believe that's my right and I will laugh and have fun with the people who are willing to participate in positivity not wallow in negativity while I pull them up by a string. Good things happen to good people who have good thoughts. I'm a big believer in the law of attraction and starting right now, I'm attracting love, peace, money (had to throw that in), laughter, joy, HAPPINESS!!!!! I will no longer stand on the sidelines cheering for the unworthy and disinterested. I have a sneaky suspicion this might be a lonely road but as the saying goes I would rather have two or three good friends than a hundred false ones. I hope I got that right, if I didn't, who cares? Life's too short, the cliches always ring true, we would be wise to take notice of them. Fabulous days all round!!

What makes people happy? I dont think people can be happy because let's face it, the grass is always greener right? I started to think that maybe the pursuit of a partner is what really makes people happy. I see it in everyday life, I cant go through a day without reading or hearing stories of love and sex, relationships, break ups, make ups and all that jazz. As the human race we seem to be obsessed with finding our soul mate and I'm not judging, just last night I found myself watching a show called "Your date with destiny", enough said.
I generalise when I say this, but woman want that man.......... you know what man I'm talking about. The Knight on the white horse, a stunning specimen of masculinity, ready and willing to take care of your every need and want. It's clearly a fantasy, but a damn good one. The fantasy becomes weaker with movies and books entitled "He's Just Not That Into You" but there's always an undercurrent of hope that he truly exists and that you'll one day have the fairytale wedding and happily ever after.
For all the feminists out there, you can untwist those panties, I'm saying that from the experiences Ive had and the women that I have come across in my life, this is the general conscensus. And dont get me wrong, I have met some independent hardass's and a slip of the tongue, usually after a glass of wine, gives that little piece of information life. It's almost as if we should be ashamed to want or need a man. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, of course, you need to keep it on a healthy level, the world has enough stalkers and co dependant freaks.
The point I'm making is that while I was day dreaming about my knight, I came across an article that knocked me right out of my white horse fantasy and onto the concrete floor of reality. A woman had found her prince charming. He was everything she had wanted and a little bit more for luck. He showered her with gifts, loved her stories, laughed at her jokes and made sure she was more than satisified in the bedroom.
As all relationships do, it progressed to the "Will you marry me?" stage. She was blown away, her answer was a proud and ecstatic YES! To put the cherry right on top of this perfect cake, he's a personal trainer, break me off a piece of that! But all was not as it seemed......
While her best friend was planning her hen party, her last night of singledom, she came across a website which featured a preview of a porn movie with none other than prince charming apparently having some fun with the evil stepsister. Dramatic pause........prince charming/porn star.
I feel for this poor woman, I feel for her because not only has this story made headlines, she's left broken hearted and humiliated. He, of course, has apologised and says he didnt mean to hurt her....cue the violins..... if that were the case he would have been honest from the beginning and let the chips fall where they may but there's no use in crying over spilt milk.
So buck up sweetheart, even though I dont believe in the knight and the fantasy, I do believe that everything happens for a reason and there are good men out there, not perfect, but good and in your case, not a porn star, so keep holding onto hope and see where it takes you. We live and learn, that's guaranteed, so enjoy the lessons and make what you can out of them.

Revenge goes Digital

Some might think we are living in the age of enlightenment. Personal growth is at the top of every one's list, its all Dr Phil and Oprah's Live Your Best Life reruns and books by Eckard Tolle. Regardless of your personal opinion, we are without argument living in the age of technology too. High speed Internet and social networks have replaced loneliness with the hope that we are in fact, never alone.
Revenge doesn't seem to fit into either of these categories, its an antiquated notion that we are to forget forgiveness and repay eyes with eyes and teeth with teeth. Optometry and dentistry have never had it so good. So, with the idea of revenge categorised with other acts of pre primary evolution its rare to come across a gem like I found today.
A woman in Malaga was arrested after posting an ad on the net promising sex from her ex boyfriends new girlfriend for free! Too good to be true? Yes, unfortunately. The new girlfriend started getting calls from hopefuls and before you could say "wow, that was nasty" the old girlfriend was caught, arrested and will be charged with something like Defamation of Character. So, she's not smart - this old girlfriend but she probably got a little thrill out of it. Lets hope it was enough to keep her warm at night in a cold, lonely jail cell. Seems that mathematically, this love triangle made the victim look like a square and the perpetrator and her plan decidedly pear shaped.
Here's my advice to anyone listening...don't do that. Maybe the new girlfriend isn't your choice for the man you used to love but here's the thing - if you're capable of that, how nice a girlfriend could you have been to start off with? OK, I'll cut her some slack, no one likes a judger but if you are hell bent on revenge, keep it old school.
That's bad advice I know. So don't take my word for it, tune into Tourism Radio and keep your eyes open for a brand new product coming end April...its going to rock.
